I can’t believe that it’s been two months since my second Crossfit competition. It was an amazing day!
I didn’t have a lot of time to prepare because gyms were closed for like two months in South Florida due to the Coronavirus. However, a few members of our box (that’s how we call gyms in Crossfit) worked out regularly during the week via Zoom with our coach Alexander Brizuela. I want to believe that those of us who worked out during the pandemic had a slight advantage in the competition than those who became a couch potatoe (I love that phrase haha!)
Anyway, I loved how Crossfit Storm prepared and set up everything for the day of the competition. There were several athletes competing and many members of the box volunteering the whole day. There was an individual competition with eight different stations and a partner competition with three WODS (workout of the day). My partner was Yury Pedroza, she has been doing Crossfit for almost a year, but we never saw each other in class because she goes at a different time. It is funny because we actually met on Zoom during our home wods, and we developed a great pandemic friendship. So, I didn’t hesitate to have her as my partner in the competition even when our experience and physical condition was very different.
Watch how we did in the partner competition here:
Even though we didn’t win, we loved the experience. I think it prepared us for the next time we compete, we will know how to set our bodies and minds to perform to the max.
You can watch me here in the individual competition:
I still can’t believe I won second place in the individual competition. I loved it, and it was amazing to prepare and give it all. However, I felt I was moving so slow in the stations. My performance with the burpees and the deadlift was poor, and I feel like I could have lasted longer during the handstand. Not to mention my time with pushing the sled, OH-MY-GOD that was horrible! But, as I said before, these weaknesses are going to help me to prepare and train these movements for the next time.
Let me know your thoughts, opinions and comments about these videos. Also, do you do Crossfit, have you competed before? How is it going for you? I would love to hear/read your experiences.
