Quotes I loved when I was 19

Going through my Facebook profile, I came up with a section called “Quotes”, back in the day, when we all were super excited about this new social medium; and we didn’t think about the consequences of publishing our lives on it, I filled that space with a bunch of quotes I liked back then.

I guess I felt badass and cool for having quotes in English, Spanish aaand Italian. So, I went through those quotes a few days ago and found myself cracking up and embarrassed. Ten years have passed and I have changed quite a few and some of these quotes feel immature and childish.

For my and everybody’s enjoyment here they are:

“Un linguaggio diverso è una diversa visione della vita.” Federico Fellini

“Regrets are a waste of time. They’re the past crippling you in the present.” Federico Fellini

“People sometimes say that the way things happen in movies is unreal, but actually it’s the way things happen in life that’s unreal. The movies make emotions look so strong and real, whereas when things really do happen to you, it’s like watching television – you don’t feel anything.” Andy Warhol

¨The Impossible is often the untried¨ — I used this quote as a signature for all my emails in my very first email account on hotmail.com

“When the character of a man is not clear to you, look at his friends.” Japanese Proverb

¨A honest answer is like a kiss on the lips¨ Proverbs 24:26

¨Something still exists as long as there´s someone around to remember it¨ Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult

“An optimist may see a light where there is none, but why must the pessimist always run to blow it out?” Rene Descartes

“Ninety percent of our life is our reactions to the 10% that is really happening” –– About this one: interesting enough, the same week I looked at the quotes section in my profile after many years, Facebook comes to me, one morning with this memory…

…It’s almost creepy. Moving on, here are some other quotes I treasured as a teenager:

“Forgiveness is when u think of those who hurt you and feel the power to wish them well – one of the first experiences of a genuine recovery” Dr. Drew

“Questo silenzio sembra eterno, e il mio inverno non finisce” Bambola di Pezza, La Oreja de Van Gogh — This is part of the lyric of a song that was originally in Spanish by a Spanish group. Why did I like it better in Italian? Because it reminded me of the drama I went through with my long-distance relationship with an Italian man that today is my husband.

“Is it worse to be ignorant or careless? I don’t know and I don’t care!” — I should apply this to my day-to-day interactions, not caring so much about gossip, rejection, etc.

“We are here to add what we can to life, not to get what we can from life” William Osler

“I didn’t slap you, I just high fived you in the face” xD — Oh my! Ridiculous

“Siempre supe que es mejor, cuando hay que hablar de dos empezar por uno mismo” Inevitable – Shakira — OMG! This is by far one of the best songs of Shakira, before she went blonde and international.

“You are literaly too stupid to insult” from The Hangover, the movie. — Haha, only laughs, no comment.

“You’re doing GREAT if your goal is to suck”
